The Lighthouse Community Center History
The Lighthouse Community Center was born out of the pandemic. A group of concerned First Baptist Church of Pitman members and folks from the Pitman community saw needs of the community and knew that the First Baptist Church of Pitman building was not being used as much as it could. The Lighthouse was created as a beacon of hope for those who needed help and community, meeting for the first time in January of 2021 and has been shining brightly since.
The Lighthouse D&D club for youths ages 10 and up provides a safe space for all to have fun while honing the skills of teamwork, critical thinking, creativity and social interaction. This team is also working to expand their program by bringing in more Dungeon Masters, opening the doors for even more kids to join.
$15 per player per game is requested to help support this program with supplies such as dice, minis, etc., as well as provide a small stipend to volunteer DMs. Sign up in advance by emailing the team using the address in the contact info at the end of this page. If a child does not have the ability to pay for any reason, our program will cover them with zero judgment or discrimination.

Fig Leaf Thrift opened its doors in March of 2021 as a pay as you can thrift shop. The name comes from a thrift shop operated by members of the First Baptist Church of Pitman from 1967-1977. We are continuing that legacy with our pay as you can concept. We have connected with local nonprofits who have clients who are in need and are ready when people have emergency needs.
All funds raised through Fig Leaf Thrift support bi-weekly free meal distribution and youth center.

The first free hot meal distribution was served on April 15, 2021 after it was seen that more people suffered with food insecurity and did not have access to homecooked meals. It started with 14 meals that first distribution. We now average over 180 meals twice a month. Community members, local farms and businesses, and others help to make all these meals.
Register for the meals here. Volunteer to help with the meals by showing up to help between 12 and 7pm. Meals are first Thursdays and third Mondays

Inspired by gay straight alliances across South Jersey, The Rainbow Room came to be in 2021 as an educational meeting space for young members of the LGBT+ community. The club has evolved over time to meet the needs of both youth (ages 12-17) and young adults (ages 18+). One can expect games, presentations, crafts, snacks, and an open invite to chat about what's on your mind. Connect via Instagram
